confetti floor? yes, please!

You, dear reader, may already know this about me: I hate to clean floors. Loathe that chore. My plan for bootsy star is to never clean the floor. Ha. Ok, I know I will have to sweep it every now and then. I wanted to be sure the floor didn't look dirty...even if it is! I have been going back and forth on what do do for the floor. I picked up some floor paint today and found this really cool confetti/glitter stuff. You just throw it up in the air over wet paint and it dries into the floor. What the awesome? I bought two bags and starting tossing!

Here is what I started with. It's the plywood floor. James wanted me to put another type of flooring over it, but I like the plywood look so I kept it. The blue tape on the walls is to mark where the studs are so I know where I can hang up my heavy stuff.

After the floor dries you sweep up the stuff that didn't dry into the floor and you end up with a nicely distributed confetti/glittery floor. How fun can a floor get, for real?

Tomorrow I can sweep up the floor and then that's it...bootsy star has a floor.
Next weekend we will do the trim around the windows, floor and ceiling. I picked up this cool greenish paint for the trim and James came up with the idea to wrap a dowel in burlap for around the ceiling. Genius!

Ohmygosh! This winter weather is c.ol.d! These last few days we've had no rain, which has been great, but it has been hovering in the low 30's. Brrrrrrrr! James braved the weather to build the door frames and install them.

 In other news....I'm trying to decide on what ceiling I want. These are the left over tin tiles that we used in the bathroom. I'm considering uses these. I'm not sure though.....

 Well, the doors were installed, but there is something not quite right. The doors don't close as easily as James would like so he is going to re-hang them. I think they look great!

The weather forecast looks fantastic....well, considering its winter! My hope is to be able to put in some of the interior installation this week so that James can put in the electrical system. Then, interior walls! As I write this it is snowing out though, so we will see how much cold I can stand!

unexpected snow day!

The forecast called for cold, dry weather (or so I thought!) so on this, the last day of 2012 I planned to put the primer coat of paint on bootsy star. The professional at Miller Paint told me that I would need four dry days in a row to paint. First prime, then wait a day, then paint, then a day to dry. I thought it would be the perfect week to paint! I headed out this morning after a few errands. The Miller guy said I should paint between 10am-2pm in the winter to maximize daylight and 'heat' for drying. I thought that would be no problem, giving me an hour per side of the shop.
The first wall and a half went fine, but then the snow started. I hoped for just a few flakes and pressed on. I had to stop when my paint try started to fill with snow.

Well, at least I got a little bit done. I won't complain that my afternoon will be spent in front of a warm fire with french onion soup and my dogs. Oh...I will also look around online for some flooring......

 In other new, at home depot this morning I came across these fun items. The holiday stuff is all 50% off so I picked up these 'super sphere' lights for $3.74 each and the packs of bulbs for $3.00 each! I think I might hang the super sphere lights in bootsy star and the ornaments are for the outside christmas trees of years passed. Fun!

Bootsy Star has some siding up!

Last week we made some good progress on (half of) the roof. It rained over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, so we couldn't get anything done up there. During a break in the rain on Sunday we rushed out and James got the rest of the South side of the roof sheathed and then started putting the tar paper up. Meanwhile I was working on putting the wrap around the frame. The wrap (I learned) is another layer of insulation. It's super lightweight, but is a crazy efficient barrier. The mighty Troutdale winds couldn't tear it down this week....so- winner!

Today (Friday 11/30) it was gray but not raining so we headed outside. We finished wrapping the frame and then started to put up the siding.

My original plan was to use reclaimed wood not just to save money, but because I liked the look of the miss-matched paint and board length. James is not really digging this at all, by the way. However. It turns out I will have to paint Bootsy Star because there is exposed wood and we can't have that. So, instead of this cool green and blue I will go with the palate I looked at a few months ago. I already picked up the super dark gray paint (Francesca) to paint the french doors. What are your thoughts on the blue (Lagoon) for the walls and the two shades of gray (Winter's day and Magnetite) for trim?
