Taking advantage of the weather- even on a holiday

There have, sadly, only been a few days without rain this month. Funny, considering we had 73 days of no rain this summer. Why didn't we build the shop then, you ask? Well, Team Wilson likes a challenge, what can we say?
When we last left our adventure James, Lauren and I had got the trusses up. Yikes. that was a chore. Next James needed to add supports so the trusses wouldn't blow over in the Troutdale wind. During a break in the rain last week James went out and added the supports.

James up in the trees

Supports going up..or in? or on?

Boom. done.

This will be Penny's Christmas card for 2012

We had booked Lauren and Jen's time on Saturday, and it rained. Rude. We all went to The ReBuilding Center to look for siding. I wanted to used reclaimed wood not just because it is waaaayyyy cheaper, but because it looks cool. We s.c.o.r.e.d and found this cool green and blue stuff.
Lauren and Jen inspect the new (old) siding

Let's load it up!

Lauren and part of the siding

Locked and loaded. This Tundra WORKS
James and I headed to Home Depot for the sheathing for the roof. Technically that is just a bunch of 4X8s. Note- this was not today, which is Thanksgiving. Home Depot, we learned the hard way, is closed today. Argh. We didn't get enough sheathing!

Look at his face. He is thinking "seriously? you are taking photos and not helping me lift this?" and i'm like "yes! this is happening!"

this ought to do it.....

on the job injury. those vents for the roof are pokey!
Today was the only day this week without rain, so we wanted to try to get as much done as possible. Yes, even on a holiday. I'm happy with what we were able to accomplish- even fighting off colds! James put as much of the sheathing as he could up in place. We need ladder jacks to get the tip top pieces up. That roof is pretty high pitched too. Scary!

Weapons against sick

This hummingbird was hanging out for a bit. She even flew into Bootsy Star...but soon left cause I had no food

James made these little temporary ledge holder things

Here we go!

One down....well, almost down

"Jenn...quit taking photos and hold the ladder!"

This little guy was on one of the sheets of plywood. James found him on the roof and brought him down to (wet) land

It's getting there.....

A star for Bootsy Star

Hunter doesn't like his paws to be wet so he wanted to stand here... where James needs to cut the sheet in half

Penny wants in on the act

Almost there!

Hunter really won't give this up. Penny moved on

James did this by himself!
Once we did all that we could for the roof today we decided to not waste the weather and we did sorting on the siding. We measured out how many of each board length we will need and sorted the wood according to the usable feet.
And this is what we need for Bootsy Star

Sorting by usable feet

we go from 5 feet to 16 feet

So that's where we leave off. Roof about 40% sheathed and the siding about 50% sorted. It's supposed to be dry on Sunday so the hope is to finish the roof stuff then.
Now- just for fun...how many ladders can you spot below?
need. more. ladders.
