getting electrified

James made a lot of progress in getting bootsy star set up for power. The outlets are all in- so we just need the power box and then to hook it up to actual power. There are technical names for these steps but Elvis knows I don't know what they are! Oh.

James loves when I shove a camera in his work

and after!

For Christmas James bought me this cool switch plate cover. It is functional, yet also symbolic of his commitment to building bootsy star. Awwww sweetest!
merry christmas, foxy!
these high up ones are for my overhead lights

i found this on the floor...it looks cool

tools (including coffee) needed to make power happen
Now that the outlets are all in place I needed to get going on finishing the insulation. I worked on that today while I finished my latest audiobook (the heart is a lonely hunter).

looks warm, no?

pink insulation- pink grapefruit drink. ya, on purpose

boom. bootsy is insulated!
Before I rolled the last (strip?) of insulation in, I wanted to leave a note of gratitude for my friends and James for the help. The BEST part of this is that I spelled 'gratitude' wrong. I LOVE that for all time my terrible spelling will be a part of my shop. Oh well. My heart really was so full I just had to add an extra t. That is how grateful I am. Seriously though. I am very thankful for the help of friends and, of course, for James for doing so much work. I will always think of m community when I craft away in there.  ...and maybe take some spelling lessons.....

In other news, I am working on the ceiling tiles. I making them out of burlap. They are coming along very well!
burlap, batting, plywood, glue. boom

i'm using james table saw table as a table. table.

here is what they look like finished. cool, huh?
Today as I was working inside Penny was running around the property doing Elvis knows what. This is what she looked like as she did her mid-day check in:
"is there something on my face?"

That's where I'm at. We (well, the me part of we) is still hoping I can begin move in by March 1st. There will still be much to do, like window trim indoor and out, a step and paint- but I should be able to get in there and start crafting within the next few weeks. Soooo excited!

this update makes me wanna dance!

Wow! It's been almost a month since I've updated you on the goings on in the construction of bootsy star! Things have been pretty slow for the month of January. I caught a cold, the weather was terribly cold, and poor James hasn't really  had any time off in months. He works M-Th and then was working on my shop F, S and Sun. All work and no play is no good for anyone. So, we've been taking it a bit easy but are anxious to get bootsy star done and up and running!

We have been working on putting in the doors and starting to put in the electrical system. I had started to put in the insulation but then realized we needed to run the electrical wire, so have to wait to finish.

I am also getting started on the ceiling. I decided to make fabric tiles (like the ones I made for my laundry room (check the out here if you missed them).) I want to have big (4X4) tiles in burlap, with a white wooden frame. I think they will look pretty cool!

A rare glimpse of Hunter

the electrical box will go where James is standing

the sun is sort of out!

Three wires going through here.....

means we need a bigger hole drilled

penny does not enjoy the sound of the drill

the south wall will have 5 outlets...at least

a good start on running the wire

putting in the outlet boxes

lets not get confused as to what wire is for what

look how tall this guy is
bootsy star will have 32 plug ins. and one switch
I picked up this little fake fireplace heater on sale at Home Depot. How cute is this thing?? I think because the whole space is 200 square feet, this little guy should be able to heat it up with no problem. Plus, I can store it elsewhere when I don't need it. Gotta be mindful of space. Wait till you see how many craft supplies I am going to cram into this shop!
bonus points if you can spot penny!

We got Schlage hardware and locks for the doors. Hells bells! These things cost nearly as much as the $150 we got the doors for! doh! I figured out how to change the code too. Don't be fooled, friends. There is no 9 in the new code. I was just showing you how it works.
the new code: 9999
I picked up these darling little firefly lights and this evening when it was getting a bit to dark to see in the shop I thought they could help light the way. Well.... no. they can't. But they are so cute!
bell jar + firefly lights= adorable

We got the really thin plywood to make the ceiling tiles out of. James walked on them to insure they are strong enough to withstand all the dancing on the ceiling that will happen when we play Lionel Ritchie music.

note said footprints

If you did not get the Lionel Ritchie reference (then I'm sorry for you, son) here is the magic:

A funny story about the burlap. I went to fabric depot and got 22 yards of the basic natural color burlap ($4.99 a yard). I was at the cutting counter and this lady asked me if the burlap was for my wedding. Now, I realize that 2012 was the year of the mason jar/burlap wedding but when she asked my first thought that she meant was I going to make my wedding dress out of it. ha. no. When I told her it was to make ceiling tiles for my workshop she was like. "oh." with a frown face on. Ok...maybe you had to be there.....

here comes the burlap

safe and sound in my car
The lights I wanted to go with are these industrial looking ones. I wanted 6 of them and found these at ikea for $20 each. They look cheap, but I think they will be ok because the ceiling tiles will be more of a focal point than the lamps.
ikea lighting. there it is.

Lately (ok, by lately I mean the last several years) I've been picking up little things that I think would look cute or be useful in my workshop. I found this fox speaker for my phone. How cute is this guy?! He came from West Elm and when I first saw him a few months ago he was $50.00. Errr. Not that cute. He is half price now so for $25.00 he can live in my shop. James named him Noisy Mcspeakerstein.

I was trying to take a photo of this cute little bottle vase set I picked up at ink and peat and Rue McClannahan decided to photo bomb me. Rude.
oh, hai

cutest little milk jar vases
My goal is to move in to bootsy star by March 1st. The plan for next weekend is to finish the electrical and install the ceiling tiles. Fingers crossed we can get this done!
