It was a big today for bootsy star, friends! James and I put up the ceiling. It looks so cool! We just have to put in the trim for and put on the electrical outlet covers and I should be ready to move in. SO EXCITING!!!
I think you all remember (maybe you journaled about it?) that I made some burlap tiles for the ceiling. I wanted something unique and cool, like me. I really like how they turned out!

We put in the insulation as we put up each row of burlap tiles. I had originally cut them to 11.5.....but it turns out we need a full 12. We went to Home Depot and picked up more insulation and recut it, so ended up able to pretty much double layer all of the insulation up in the attic. It will be one temperate crafty shop, lemmetellya!

We had a rare visit from Hunter today. Mostly it was because it was raining outside and he didn't want to get wet so he came inside to supervise the work.

Wow! It's been almost a month since I've updated you on the goings on in the construction of bootsy star! Things have been pretty slow for the month of January. I caught a cold, the weather was terribly cold, and poor James hasn't really had any time off in months. He works M-Th and then was working on my shop F, S and Sun. All work and no play is no good for anyone. So, we've been taking it a bit easy but are anxious to get bootsy star done and up and running!
We have been working on putting in the doors and starting to put in the electrical system. I had started to put in the insulation but then realized we needed to run the electrical wire, so have to wait to finish.
I am also getting started on the ceiling. I decided to make fabric tiles (like the ones I made for my laundry room (check the out here if you missed them).) I want to have big (4X4) tiles in burlap, with a white wooden frame. I think they will look pretty cool!

I picked up this little fake fireplace heater on sale at Home Depot. How cute is this thing?? I think because the whole space is 200 square feet, this little guy should be able to heat it up with no problem. Plus, I can store it elsewhere when I don't need it. Gotta be mindful of space. Wait till you see how many craft supplies I am going to cram into this shop!

We got Schlage hardware and locks for the doors. Hells bells! These things cost nearly as much as the $150 we got the doors for! doh! I figured out how to change the code too. Don't be fooled, friends. There is no 9 in the new code. I was just showing you how it works.

I picked up these darling little firefly lights and this evening when it was getting a bit to dark to see in the shop I thought they could help light the way. Well.... no. they can't. But they are so cute!

We got the really thin plywood to make the ceiling tiles out of. James walked on them to insure they are strong enough to withstand all the dancing on the ceiling that will happen when we play Lionel Ritchie music.

A funny story about the burlap. I went to fabric depot and got 22 yards of the basic natural color burlap ($4.99 a yard). I was at the cutting counter and this lady asked me if the burlap was for my wedding. Now, I realize that 2012 was the year of the mason jar/burlap wedding but when she asked my first thought that she meant was I going to make my wedding dress out of it. ha. no. When I told her it was to make ceiling tiles for my workshop she was like. "oh." with a frown face on. Ok...maybe you had to be there.....

The lights I wanted to go with are these industrial looking ones. I wanted 6 of them and found these at ikea for $20 each. They look cheap, but I think they will be ok because the ceiling tiles will be more of a focal point than the lamps.

Lately (ok, by lately I mean the last several years) I've been picking up little things that I think would look cute or be useful in my workshop. I found this fox speaker for my phone. How cute is this guy?! He came from West Elm and when I first saw him a few months ago he was $50.00. Errr. Not that cute. He is half price now so for $25.00 he can live in my shop. James named him Noisy Mcspeakerstein.
I was trying to take a photo of this cute little bottle vase set I picked up at ink and peat and Rue McClannahan decided to photo bomb me. Rude.

My goal is to move in to bootsy star by March 1st. The plan for next weekend is to finish the electrical and install the ceiling tiles. Fingers crossed we can get this done!
Wow! What a difference a day makes!
Today was just as cold as yesterday- and also just as clear. It was really nice to see the sun up there, even if we couldn't feel much heat from it.
Jenn came over and her and I got started filling more of the nail holes while James finished up on the tip top of the East eave.

Jen came in to put the second coat of paint on one of the doors. The color is a really dark gray. Then she headed out to bootsy star to bleach the other door and paint it. There was about a 40 degree difference between inside and outside!

We had our (usual) shift change in the afternoon. Lauren (and Nate) came over and Jen headed home. Lauren is not afraid to just climb right up that scaffolding, so James gets A LOT more done when she is around. ahem.

It was so awesome to finish the siding and get the roof up. I LOVE how the it turned out. It was great to see Jen and Lauren and to have their help. They bring not only hands to help but they both have such positive energy and really lift James and I up when we want to just set the whole thing on fire. xx
The plan for next weekend is to get the french doors installed so we can keep the inside dry and then start in on the ceiling. bootsy star is more than half way done!
