the walls are going up....but not in my heart, just my shop

The spring weather is starting to happen...so yeah for that! Last Saturday Jen and Lauren came over to help us get started on putting up the walls. I chose the bead board look, and liked this simple pieces. James looked at them and said "you know this is the stuff cardboard is made out of...right?". And I responded "oh. cool! I feel like I'm recycling!" He sighed. He doesn't enjoy working with cheap materials, but, hey I liked this look and it seemed like it would be simple to put up! We got a wall and a half done and then this evening James and I got another wall done.

This is the baseboard. obviously.

these are the walls! i love them...james hates them

In other news, I went to the Salvation Army today and picked up this little spice rack for $1.99. I'll use it to hold glitter, of course

Last summer at Plucky Maidens  I found this tool box for a few bucks. I will use it for...errr...something cool.

I also found this little metal cart at Salvation Army today. It is vintage, and set me back $25.00. It even has a little extension cord plug on it so I can power something up on it. I am in love with this cart. James thinks I paid too much.
so cool!
It was such a lovely evening that I had to let the girls out to hunt for bugs and worms. They are back to laying and the more bugs and grass they eat the more awesome the eggs. Truly.
guess what? chicken butt!!

the girls and their coop
I have a lot of gratitude that this is the view from our front yard. The view here is just stunning and is worth the 30 minute drive to good coffee.

nearer and nearer to a roof

We took the Christmas holiday weekend off from construction on bootsy star. We plan to get a lot done this weekend to make up for the time off.

The metal roofing was ready to pick up from Lowe's so we headed in on Friday morning.

James and the dudes from Lowes load up the metal
First, James had to repair some wind damage to the tar paper.
Up, up to the top of the roof he goes

A man up in the sky...ish

Penny...just happy to be here

Oh! here he is from the other side!

Almost done

Time to lay out the South side of the roof

It looks like we've got a pretty exact match to the shop

Checking for the fit of the flashing
Before we put the roof on, we needed to finish siding the North side of the shop and also the eaves on the West and East sides.
Finishing the siding

Note James new ear protection? He got those for Christmas! They attach to an mp3 player so he can listen to music while he works. It's funny to hear him break out some Mumford and Sons.....
This shot is purely for the ear protection

Notching out for the window on the North side

Side note: Isn't nature just the loveliest; the coolest?

Hunter is THRILLED to be out in 38 degree weather

Lunch break! Nichols...one of our favorites

Siding up the eaves

Friday ended with the North side of the shop sided and most all of the eaves on the West.

This morning when we got up it was not raining. Lovely! I let the girls out and the beelined it outta the coop looking for worms and bugs.

Eloise is like 'what are you looking at?!'

This guy came back again today
Can you spot  Penny in the photo below?
I don't know what this is....but I like it!

It was COLD but not raining
The dogs and I walked around the property while James worked away. Note that Penny and Hunter are on the other side of our property line. How rude.
Penny and Hunter- rule breakers

Is that a blue sky?!

getting ready to add the flashing

level it out!

I'm up on the scaffolding!

Penny is trying to figure out how to get to me

Ok, on to the East eave

getting there....

completed West side

Just as he got to the top we lost the light

Until tomorrow.....

It was incredibly cold out there so when we lost the light we were not terrible disappointed. The plan for tomorrow is to finish those last few pieces of siding on the eave and then add the 12 pieces of metal roofing (six on each side) and the thing that goes over the top. ....whatever that is called!
