heavy hearts and soggy ground- we slowly press on

It rained every day this weekend. (Since James doesn't work on Fridays, I count that day as a weekend day.) Not only was the weather bad, but the events in CT left our spirits down as well. Neither of us were is much of a 'building' mode.

On Friday we went to Home Depot and Lowes to comparison shop and then order the roof. I want a metal roof because I like the look of them.

It turns out there are a lot of color choices in metal roofing. Surprise, surprise. I went with galvanized steel. It cost about $400 bucks for the roofing. It will take about two weeks to get it here.
All these colors and I choose 'galvanized steel'

There goes another $400 of my shop budget!
After we bought the roofing we went to one of our favorite spots, Nicholas for lunch. As details of the shooting emerged, our hearts broke. Neither of us were in the mood to work on the shop.
More than half of this bread goes to Hunter

On Saturday we headed out into the rain with the intention of closing up the eaves of the shop. James cut the plywood and then added the vents and put all the pieces in place above the East and West walls.

West side getting started
As James worked away, Penny and I walked around the property. It was mostly quiet, with the soft sound of rain all we could hear. I stopped at the back corner that we have planned to turn into an outdoor reading nook and sent healing, loving energy to the community in Newtown.

We have about 2.5 acres out here. The buildings are pretty close together. The blue building on the left is James shop. The white building in our house. The building with no walls is going to be the library. Then of course the chicken coop and bootsy star.

While James worked I made him a pie

Now on to the East

The view from inside the shop
On Sunday James finished up the eaves and then we started in on the siding. It began raining really hard, and the longer we stood out in the rain the colder and muddier we became. We almost finished the North wall but had to call it a day on account of the weather.

It's starting to look like a little building

I was in the (mostly) dry shop while James worked in the rain. Rude

Welcome to muddville. Population: 2

The rest of the siding will involve miter cuts, because of the shape of the windows. James has not yet settled on the larger miter saw he wants to purchase. That is on the agenda for this week. My job this week is to clean the doors (they've been outside in the elements) and paint them. James will build the frame and then we can install them.
